Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 31, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Ringu collects, uses, shares, and protects personal information when people use Ringu's apps, websites, APIs, and related services. In this policy, "Ringu," "we," "our," and "us" mean the operator of the Ringu service. "You" means a user, visitor, creator, developer, or other person whose information we process.
Ringu is designed as a social network for creating profiles, sharing content, discovering creators, messaging, and interacting with other accounts. Because of that, some information you provide to Ringu is meant to be visible to other people based on your settings and how you use the service.
Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to personal information processed in connection with Ringu's consumer-facing services, websites, hosted content, moderation tools, and account support channels. It also applies to personal information we process in connection with approved third-party integrations that rely on Ringu account or platform features.
This policy does not apply to third-party sites, apps, or services that are not operated by Ringu, even if you access them through links, embeds, sign-in options, or integrations within the service.
Information We Collect
We collect information in three main ways: information you provide to us, information we collect automatically when you use Ringu, and information we receive from other people or third parties.
Information You Provide
Depending on how you use Ringu, you may provide:
- account information such as your username, password, date of birth, email address, phone number, profile photo, bio, pronouns, links, and account preferences;
- profile and social graph information such as accounts you follow, accounts that follow you, blocked users, muted users, close-friend style lists, and contact sync choices if offered;
- content you create or upload, including text posts, captions, comments, photos, videos, audio, drafts, livestream details, hashtags, and metadata associated with that content;
- communications you send through Ringu, including support messages, reports, appeals, survey responses, and, where available, direct messages and related metadata;
- transaction or creator commerce information, if Ringu offers paid features, subscriptions, or marketplace functionality;
- information you provide for verification, trust and safety review, or age confirmation.
Information We Collect Automatically
When you use Ringu, we may automatically collect:
- device, browser, and app information such as device identifiers, operating system, app version, browser type, language settings, crash data, and similar diagnostic information;
- log and usage information such as IP address, approximate location inferred from IP, session activity, interaction history, watch time, clicks, searches, referral pages, and the timing and duration of activity;
- content interaction signals such as likes, saves, shares, follows, skips, hides, reports, and playback behavior;
- cookies, local storage data, and similar technologies described in our Cookies Policy.
Information From Other Sources
We may receive information about you from:
- people who interact with you on Ringu, including when they tag you, mention you, report content, invite you, or upload contact information that includes your details;
- authentication, security, payment, hosting, analytics, moderation, and other service providers acting on our behalf;
- third-party platforms when you choose to sign in through them or connect your Ringu account to them;
- advertisers, measurement providers, and business partners, if Ringu offers ad or attribution products;
- law enforcement, rights holders, and other third parties who submit valid legal or policy-related requests.
How We Use Information
We use personal information to operate, improve, and protect Ringu. This may include using information to:
- create and maintain accounts, profiles, and public or private social features;
- host, display, rank, recommend, and distribute content on the service;
- personalize feeds, search results, creator suggestions, and discovery tools;
- enable communications and social interactions between users;
- measure performance, troubleshoot bugs, and improve product quality;
- detect spam, coordinated abuse, fraud, scraping, account compromise, and other harmful or unauthorized activity;
- review reports, enforce our terms and policies, and make safety-related decisions using automated systems and human review;
- process payments, subscriptions, purchases, or creator payouts if those features are offered;
- send service messages, security notices, policy updates, support responses, and, where permitted, product announcements or marketing communications;
- comply with legal obligations and protect the rights, property, safety, and integrity of Ringu, our users, and the public.
Public Content and Account Visibility
Ringu includes features designed for public expression and discovery. Depending on your settings, your username, display name, profile photo, bio, follower or following counts, public posts, comments, and engagement signals may be visible to other users or to the public on and off Ringu.
If you choose to use public-facing features, your content may be reshared, embedded, indexed by search engines, or referenced by others. Private or limited-audience features may have different visibility rules, but no online service can guarantee that recipients will not capture or redistribute content they can view.
How We Share Information
We may share personal information in the following circumstances:
- with service providers that help us host, secure, moderate, analyze, support, or operate the service;
- with other users and the public according to your settings and the nature of the feature you use;
- with business partners or integrated services when you direct us to connect to them or use a feature that requires data sharing;
- with advertisers, analytics providers, or measurement partners in aggregated, de-identified, or otherwise limited form, and with more specific data only when permitted by law and our settings or product design;
- with rights holders, law enforcement, regulators, courts, or other third parties when we believe disclosure is necessary to comply with law, enforce our policies, respond to valid requests, or prevent harm;
- in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, sale of assets, or similar corporate transaction.
We do not state in this policy that we "sell" personal information in the ordinary sense of exchanging data for cash. If Ringu later offers advertising or partner measurement features that trigger a specific legal disclosure regime, we may provide additional notices or controls.
Cookies and Similar Technologies
Ringu uses cookies, local storage, SDKs, pixels, and similar technologies to keep the service working, remember preferences, understand product performance, help secure accounts, and, if applicable, support analytics and advertising.
For more detail, see the Cookies Policy.
Legal Bases and Choices
Depending on where you live, we may rely on one or more legal bases for processing personal information, including:
- performance of a contract when we provide the service you requested;
- legitimate interests such as improving the product, maintaining security, preventing abuse, and operating discovery features;
- consent where we ask for it, including for certain device permissions or optional cookies;
- compliance with legal obligations;
- protection of vital interests or important public interest where permitted by law.
Where consent is required, you can withdraw it through available settings or by contacting us, although withdrawal will not affect processing that occurred before withdrawal.
Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your location and the nature of our processing, you may have the right to:
- access personal information we hold about you;
- correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
- delete your account or certain content;
- object to or restrict certain processing;
- request a portable copy of information you provided to us;
- withdraw consent where our processing is based on consent;
- control profile visibility, recommendations, notifications, and available ad or cookie settings;
- lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority or regulator.
Ringu may ask you to verify your identity before fulfilling certain requests. Some rights may be limited where exceptions apply, including to protect other users, legal claims, or safety investigations.
Data Retention
We retain information for as long as necessary to provide the service, maintain accounts and social features, investigate abuse, resolve disputes, comply with law, and protect our systems and users.
Retention periods depend on the type of information, the feature involved, your settings, and whether the information is needed for safety, security, or legal purposes. Content removed from public view may remain in backups, logs, or review systems for a limited period.
International Transfers
Ringu may process and store information in countries other than the country in which you live. When we transfer personal information across borders, we will use appropriate safeguards as required by applicable law.
Children and Teens
Ringu is not intended for children under 13, or any higher minimum age required by local law to use the service without parental consent. If we learn that we have collected personal information from someone below the applicable minimum age, we may disable the account and delete the information.
We may apply additional safeguards, limits, or privacy defaults to accounts we believe belong to teens.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we may provide notice through the service, by email, or through other reasonable means. Your continued use of Ringu after the updated policy becomes effective means the updated policy will apply going forward.
