Youth Safety Policy

Last updated: March 31, 2026

Ringu is designed for broad creative expression, but not every experience is appropriate for every age group. This Youth Safety Policy explains the age-based rules, product protections, parental or guardian tools, and enforcement steps Ringu may use to help protect children and teens.

This policy should be read together with Ringu's Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, Community Guidelines, and any additional feature rules that apply to messaging, live features, recommendations, or creator programs.

1. Minimum Age and Age Accuracy

You must meet Ringu's minimum age requirement to create or use an account. In most places, that minimum age is 13, unless local law requires a higher age or parental consent.

You must provide accurate date-of-birth information. Ringu may use age assurance, verification, or review measures to confirm age where needed for safety, product access, or legal compliance.

If we reasonably believe an account belongs to someone below the minimum age, we may remove content, restrict features, require age verification, or disable the account.

2. Age-Appropriate Experience

Ringu may provide different experiences for different age groups. These may include:

  • private-by-default settings for teens;
  • stricter controls on who can contact, mention, tag, or recommend younger users;
  • reduced eligibility for public discovery or recommendation surfaces;
  • limits on live streaming, gifting, monetization, or commercial tools;
  • limits on mature themes, sensitive content, or appearance-changing tools.

Some safeguards may be mandatory for certain ages and may not be turned off.

3. Messaging, Discovery, and Interaction Limits

To reduce unwanted contact and abuse, Ringu may apply age-based limits to:

  • direct messages and message requests;
  • who can comment on, remix, download, duet, stitch, or reuse teen content;
  • whether teen accounts can be surfaced in search, recommendations, or follow suggestions;
  • who can invite teens into groups, lives, or commercial experiences.

We may also apply stricter anti-spam, anti-grooming, and anti-harassment review to accounts that interact with teens.

4. Youth Safety Content Rules

In addition to the Community Guidelines, Ringu removes or restricts content that:

  • sexually exploits, grooms, or endangers minors;
  • encourages minors to meet offline in unsafe ways;
  • normalizes self-harm, eating disorders, or dangerous challenges for young audiences;
  • targets teens with predatory, coercive, or manipulative behavior;
  • reveals or solicits a minor's sensitive personal information.

We may also age-gate or reduce distribution for content that is not suitable for younger audiences even if it does not violate the Community Guidelines outright.

5. Family and Guardian Tools

Where offered, Ringu may provide family or guardian tools that allow a trusted adult to help manage a teen's experience. These tools may include:

  • screen-time or bedtime controls;
  • visibility into privacy and messaging settings;
  • keyword or topic filtering for recommendations;
  • controls over comments, messages, follows, or discovery features;
  • access to safety education materials and reporting guides.

Availability may vary by age, region, and product surface.

6. Reporting and Escalation

Anyone can report content or behavior that may place a child or teen at risk. Ringu may prioritize review of reports involving minors, grooming, sexual exploitation, extortion, or credible threats.

In serious cases, we may preserve evidence, disable accounts immediately, and report the matter to appropriate authorities, child-safety organizations, or other entities where required or appropriate.

7. Appeals and Review

If Ringu restricts or disables an account because of age or youth-safety concerns, we may offer a way to request review or submit age-verification materials where appropriate.

We may decline to restore access if we cannot confirm eligibility or if the account presents an unacceptable safety risk.

8. Changes to This Policy

Ringu may update this Youth Safety Policy to reflect new features, legal requirements, safety research, or enforcement learnings. If we make material changes, we may provide notice through the service or by other reasonable means.
